September Top of the Month Club 9-2017

September Top of the Month Club 2017

Our garden border is wild and untended this time of year. The flowers have grown together, creating a verdant tangle of old and new. Young blooms shine next to diminished older blooms and thriving plants are juxtaposed with plants aged by the season. I love the complexity of this entangled kaleidoscope and I spend a good bit of time gazing at it, soaking it in before it passes: summer is shifting to fall and the transition is gathering speed.

There is one spot in the back of the border that is particularly poignant to me, where the six-foot tall sunflowers have gone dark. They were once bright and full of light but now their petals are missing and their seeds have been consumed. These sunflowers are now standing like dark and hollow sentinels, alluding to the season past, and in front of them, heedless and unaware, smoldering orange and pink flowers are blooming with lively abandon. Welcome to Living Color, our September TOMC!

Our wool/silk blend is the deluxe blend, 60/40 Polwarth/Tussah Silk. The extra silk makes this a fabulously luxurious blend and will give your yarn spectacular glow and shine!

Our wool this month is Blueface Leicester. BFL has compelling luster, easy spin-ability, and it will spin into a broad range of different yarns.

Our companion tonal this month is Blended Chocolate.

Happy Spinning everyone!

Warm regards,
Mary Ann and Stephen

Situated on a hill overlooking the Haw River, Three Waters Farm looks out over a mixed terrain of fields, woods, and water in the piedmont of North Carolina. We moved here in 1989 with the intent to raise our family on a working homestead. Initially we produced a mix of organic vegetables, cut flowers, goat cheese, and baked goods at the Carrboro Farmers' Market.
Since 1997, we have focused on making products from our sheep's wool and our goat's milk. We produce a variety of hand-painted yarns, and spinning fibers, and from our goat's milk, we make Goat's Milk True-soap, using our own special recipe.
