June Top of the Month Club 2017
Nurseries in full bloom feel like the essence of summer to me, so while visiting with my sister, I convinced her to take me to some flower nurseries. The nurseries she chose were gigantic ones, much bigger than any of the nurseries in my area. Each of them was packed with both people and plants. (Apparently, Im not the only gal with a flowering plant obsession!)
Both of the nurseries spread out over several acres, with multiple combined hoop houses, each one filled to overflowing with flowering plants of all types and sizes. Once inside, I was engulfed in a blaze of colors. As we moved through the hoop houses taking it all in, I filled my color tank to the brim. It may have been the heat (or perhaps just a spoonful of Mary Poppins,) but as I strolled from one shining color vista to the next, I began to get the delicious sense that with just a wink, a think, and a double blink, the hoop houses were springing to life just as I came to the end of one house and was about to enter the next. Welcome to Florescence, our June TOMC!!
Our wool this month is something unexpected! Our fiber supplier sent us a different type of Finn, a Finn Cross
. This Finn has a micron count of 26/27 and a more open crimp, which serves to enhance the flow of dye, leading to more color blending. The resulting variations have a watercolor feel, which we like. We cant wait to hear how you like it!
Our wool/silk blend this month is Blueface Leicester/Tussah Silk, a 75/25 blend. This BFLTS needs no introduction; it has tremendous luster and its both open and easy to spin. The silk in this blend adds luxe to the infinite pleasures of BFL. This fiber will spin into fantastic yarn at almost any grist.
This month tonal is Iron Blue.
Happy Summer and Happy Spinning to you!
