Master Spinner Program

The Master Spinner Program consists of six progressive levels of classroom and independent study involving skill development, research studies and project assignments in the area of hand spinning of all major types of fibers, yarns and the end use of the spun yarns. At all levels, students are evaluated on the basis of written assignments, practical projects, oral presentations and skill development. For each level, there is a course fee, a materials fee and a workbook evaluation fee (payable when homework is submitted for marking).

Those individuals who successfully complete the assignments in all six levels will receive a Master Spinner Certificate from Olds College.

To view or download the Competency Profiles of each level, go to the Olds College Master Spinner Program page. To sign up for the Master Spinner Program, contact Otto Pahl at Olds College.

The North Carolina Master Spinner Satellite Program

In 2007, Sherry Healey, who began the US Master Spinner Satellite Program in Davis, Oklahoma, started another sattelite program in North Carolina. Sherry has since left NC and now resides in Colorado; I wouldn't be surprised if we soon hear of another thriving Master Spinner program in the US!

Currently, Tina Feir of Gate City Yarns and Mary Ann Pagano of Three Waters Farm are running the NC program. June, 2009, was our first time hosting 2 classes, Level One and Level Three. Our dates for 2010 are May 24 to 28 for Level Two, and May 31 to June 4 for Level Four. Classes will be held in Greensboro, NC, at Blandwood Mansion or Gate City Yarns. Contact Mary Ann or Tina for more information.
